Endorsed master plan now available

James Drysdale Reserve is a large, well-used community, sport and recreation site in Bunya in The Hills District. We know as the population of this area grows, more community infrastructure will be needed to maintain liveability and meet demand.

We've been working on a plan for James Drysdale Reserve so this much-loved sports and recreation hub can meet the needs of our community now and for years to come. To guide the long-term vision for the site, we prepared a draft master plan which we shared in late 2024 for stakeholder and community feedback.

This feedback was considered, along with detailed site analysis, and the draft master plan was updated. Council considered the updated draft master plan at its General Meeting on 25 March 2026 and resolved to endorse the plan.

Key features of the endorsed masterplan include:

  • a new multi‑storey car park with netball and multi‑purpose courts on the roof, plus amenities (the Next Level Sports Hub)
  • upgrade and relocation of the dirt racing facility
  • co-shared athletics track and hockey field, with a new district level clubhouse
  • more junior baseball diamonds, plus new clubhouses for baseball and soccer
  • better internal road network, pedestrian connectivity, lighting and accessibility
  • a large central play and fitness node, along with new trailhead facilities (such as signage and seating)
  • provision for aleternate entry/egress at the Bunya Rd frontage of the facility.

Next steps

The endorsed master plan will be delivered in stages over many years. The staged delivery approach has been developed to manage complexity, stakeholder impacts and budget considerations. The stages will be subject to Council and other government funding and prioritisation against other needs across the city.

Council will continue to keep stakeholders informed about the progress. General updates will be published on Council's website.
