Consultation on the concept designs for skate park upgrades at Dayboro Skate Park was undertaken in March 2023.

The themes and skate park design options were informed by previous community engagement. The themes reflected the history of Dayboro township and its community.

The community were asked to help us pick the theme and design option that would best attract locals and visitors to a fun and enjoyable skating experience in Dayboro.

To acknowledge Dayboro’s history, skate design consultants Trinity Skateparks suggested two different themes for the skate park. One potential theme paid homage to the dairy industry, while the other gave a nod to the timber and pineapple industries.

Both options are three zoned skate parks designed to cater to all skill levels. The options differ in terms of their layout and the skate park elements that have been included.

Option 1 has a street/park style run with a separate bowl.

For beginner to intermediate riders, the northern area of the park has flat banks and roll overs that are between 0.6m and 1m high.

For intermediate riders, the middle area has transitions, flat rails and a 1m transition bowl.

For advanced riders, a series of harder obstacles flow into the centre of the park, including the addition of transition bowl grind bars and a 1m high 360 degree volcano.

Option 2 does not have a bowl but does have a larger 'street' footprint.

For beginner to intermediate riders, the northern area of the park has spine transitions and roll ins, and roll overs with grindable features.

For intermediate riders, the middle area provides a long run including a 1m bank into ledges, stairs and flat rails. Transitions at both ends enable easy change of direction and movement between obstacles.

For intermediate and advanced riders, additional china banks, pole jams and flat banks are spread across the park.

For advanced riders, manual pad and ledge combinations, pole jams and transitions of 1m or more have been included.

In October 2022, Council and skate park consultant Trinity Skateparks undertook community consultation to upgrade Dayboro Skate Park. We wanted to know the types of riders and visitors that were using the skatepark, what the Dayboro and skate communities loved about it currently, and how we could elevate the design to give you more of what you wanted. Consultation included a drop-in session on 15 October 2022 and a community survey that was open for two weeks.

Some of the key things you told us were:

• The Dayboro Skate Park is an important part of the community, and there is support for the planned upgrade.
• The park is used by all ages and skill levels, with most usage being by skateboarders, BMX riders and scooters.
• The community like both street/plaza style skate as well as bowl and transitions.
• Your top favoured obstacles included:
  • o steel and granite coping
  • o mini ramps
  • o bowls and transitions
  • o spines
  • o fun boxes
  • o stairs and hubbas
  • o rails and ledges.
