Joan Stephenson Park naming now confirmed

Council is pleased to confirm an area of parkland located on Lot 901 on SL10762 at 29 Augustins Crescent, Petrie, will now be known as Joan Stephenson Park.

Council received a request to name the area of parkland in recognition of Ms Joan Stephenson's contribution to the Pine Rivers community. Council invited community comment between 26 July to 22 August 2023.

Long-term resident of the Pine Rivers area Ms Stephenson was a volunteer with many community organisations and loved nothing more than to give back.

You can read more about the reasons for the proposed naming of Joan Stephenson's Park in Council's Council's General Meeting Minutes from 28 June 2023.

Naming Council’s assets

Council recognises the significant social value to the community of naming places, structures and assets under its direct control.

We see naming as important because it helps to create amazing places by:

  • identifying landmarks within the community
  • supporting wayfinding for locals, visitors and emergency services agencies
  • contributing to community belonging and place identity
  • reflecting and preserving the cultural and heritage values of the region.

Council undertakes naming in accordance with our Policy for Council-owned or administered public places, structures and other assets (excluding roads).
