Art is for everyone

City of Moreton Bay is bringing art and creativity to where people are going about their everyday lives with our first city-wide Outdoor Gallery!

The City of Moreton Bay Outdoor Gallery will exhibit quality, contemporary artworks at up to 6 outdoor locations across our polycentric city.

The Outdoor Gallery will enliven public spaces and places, create a changing art trail for locals and visitors to enjoy, and provide opportunities for artists to share their work with diverse audiences.

Half a Million Imaginations

The first exhibition of the Outdoor Gallery, expected to open in November 2026, will be themed ‘Half a Million Imaginations’.

City of Moreton Bay is home to just over half a million people who together make up our diverse communities. The artists and artworks they create will reflect the diversity of our communities.

The exhibition will be in place for 12 months and is expected to include original artworks of up to 18 Australian artists, pending funding application outcomes.

Artists can apply now

Council is seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) from artists for the inaugural exhibition in the City of Moreton Bay Outdoor Gallery.

City of Moreton Bay based artists are encouraged to apply. Council also encourages EOIs from Australian artists who have a connection to our city or have an interest in producing an artwork that reflects aspects of the city and local communities.

EOIs close at midnight on Sunday 31 August 2025.

Artist expression of interest

This is an exciting opportunity for 18 new site-specific temporary public artwork commissions to be displayed for 12 months.

Seeking curatorial teams

Council is seeking proposals from curatorial teams to oversee the development and delivery of the ‘Half a Million Imaginations’ exhibition.

Under this overarching theme, you will bring together pieces that explore how art and creative expression may represent and help to foster an inclusive, diverse and connected city.

This is an exciting, unique and significant curatorial opportunity to work with up to 18 artists to create 18 new site-specific artworks at up to six locations across the city.

Proposals will be accepted until 4pm Sunday 3 August 2025.

Inspire the artists

Thank you to all those who completed the survey between 26 May and 22 June 2025 and shared with us how imagination plays a role in your everyday life, or your imagined future. Your feedback will inform the Artists' Briefs and the commissioned artworks.

You can read what we heard in the City of Moreton Bay Outdoor Galley Community Engagement Summary.

There will be more opportunities to be involved in this exciting project by participating in creative workshops with the commissioned artists.

Dates, locations and bookings for workshops will be on Council’s website from November 2025. Click the +Follow button at the top this page to be notified when registrations open. Through these workshops, artists will learn more about the different places and people in our city.

City of Moreton Bay is a rapidly evolving city with around 240 people moving here every week. Just as communities across the city continue to change, so too will the artwork exhibited in the City of Moreton Bay Outdoor Gallery. Each year, there will be a new exhibition of artworks displayed in the City of Moreton Bay Outdoor Gallery.

Next steps

During the next 18 months, we will be:

  • confirming funding (allocated funding through the SEQ City Deal Public Art Initiatives is expected to be confirmed in late 2025)
  • gathering inspiration from the community for the Artists' Briefs and the commissioned artworks
  • building infrastructure to display two-dimensional artworks at the selected locations (e.g. billboards, light boxes, digital screens and projection infrastructure)
  • commissioning artists to be part of the first professionally curated exhibition of the Outdoor Gallery (funded by SEQ City Deal Public Art Initiatives)
  • supporting commissioned artists as they develop and deliver their artworks.
