Background

Council is committed to providing amazing public spaces that promote inclusion and active, healthy lifestyles for the community.

The upgrade of this skate park is part of a program of maintenance and renewal Council is investing in to improve 23 skate park facilities across our region. This program follows a detailed BMX and Skate Park Facilities Audit that was completed in 2019. The audit looked at the functionality, structural condition and strategic location of our skate park facilities.

From this, Council identified opportunities to improve all the skate parks through significant investment in maintenance and renewal. We also identified opportunities for several skate parks to be redesigned and upgraded, which are being rolled out in a phased approach. The upgrades within Phase 1 are:

  • Albany Creek
  • Dayboro
  • Deception Bay
  • Morayfield
  • North Lakes

Phase 2 will commence for the remaining skate parks as plans are drafted and funding becomes available. Council is inviting community input into the concept plans for each park.

We are also working on the Inclusive Recreation Mapping project in tandem with existing and future strategies. The mapping project will identify suitable locations for inclusive infrastructure for BMX and skate opportunities.

    Next steps

Feedback from the community will be considered along with consultant advice, best practice design principles, site constraints, project budget, market quotes and other factors to determine the final concept plan for the site.

We will share the results from community consultation along with the refined concept design once finalised.
