The Samford Parklands is currently home to:
The next project to be delivered within the parklands is the Village Green. The Village Green will include an events and picnic lawn, play area, gathering plaza with seating, edible landscapes and additional car parking. You can read more about the Village Green here.
The Glasshouse Precinct is approximately 2400m2. It sits in an elevated position within the Samford Parklands adjacent to Mount Samson Road. This map shows the location.
The future of the existing glasshouse frames currently standing on the site is yet to be determined.
The site is not connected to the sewer system and establishing a connection is prohibitively high at this time.
The current road access will eventually be closed and replaced by a future intersection closer to Samford Village.
A fenced corridor needs to be established between the farm and Mt Samson Road to allow livestock to move between the north and south paddocks when the new Village Green and associated roads and parking are completed.
Any potential contamination from past uses of the site will need to be investigated and managed.
Council is committed to appropriately acknowledging the history and heritage of the site in any future use. How this will be achieved hasn’t been determined yet, but it may involve adaptive re-use of the glasshouse elements and/or interpretative information and signage about the former site uses.
In 2020/21, Council invited expressions of interest to activate the Samford Glasshouse Precinct to generate economic activity. After working with potential proponents to explore different ideas this process ended with none of the proposals proving financially viable. Council is now exploring alternative ways to bring this space to life.
Yes, absolutely. Anyone who lives, works or plays in Samford can participate in the consultation.
Before a delivery timeframe can be established, Council needs to work through the process of determining what should be delivered. The current community consultation is an important part of that. Once we have a clearer picture of what is proposed for the site, we can share expected delivery timeframes.
