Nature play

Nature play is a form of play where children are provided with the opportunity to engage in unstructured play activities in outdoor settings. This play engages with the natural world in a playful and exploratory manner. It involves activities such as climbing trees, building forts, natural streams/water connections, and exploring forests or beaches. This type of play encourages a connection with nature, fostering a sense of wonder, creativity, and environmental awareness.

Adventure play

Adventure play is a term used to describe a type of play that involves exploration, discovery, and taking risks. It is often associated with outdoor activities that allow challenge to push their boundaries, overcome obstacles, and engage with the natural world. Adventure play encourages creativity, physical activity, and problem-solving skills. The defining characteristic of adventure play is the element of excitement and the sense of exhilaration that comes from stepping out of one's comfort zone and embracing new experiences.

Balance play

Balance play refers to the concept of maintaining a state of equilibrium or harmony while engaging in playful activities. It often involves activities challenging physical balance, such as walking on a balancing beam or moving object.

Sensory play

Sensory play is any play activity that engages the senses - touch, smell, taste, sight, and hearing. It stimulates brain development, helps build fine motor skills, encourages exploration, and fosters creativity. Sensory play in public space can involve various materials like sand, water, or even natural objects such as feathers, shells, and leaves. It provides a rich learning experience for children, allowing them to experience the world around them in a fun and stimulating way.

Discovery play

Discovery play is a type of play where children engage in exploration and experimentation to discover and understand the world around them. It involves using all the senses, imagination, and curiosity to learn, problem-solve, and make new connections. It encourages independent thinking, creativity, and a deeper understanding of concepts through hands-on experiences. Discovery play can involve various activities, such as building blocks, investigating nature, experimenting with art materials, and engaging in imaginative and open-ended play scenarios.
