Past Consultation
The Dayboro community and visitors to the area have been providing ideas and feedback on a new design for Dayboro Park since late 2021. Council ran consultation over three key phases:
- Phase 1: early consultation
- Phase2: draft concept design
- Phase 3: updated draft concept design.
We also drew on insights from the Moreton Says data to better understand the priorities and values of the local community.
Thank you to all those who contributed to this process.
Phase 1
Phase one community consultation
In late 2021, the Dayboro community was asked to share their ideas and aspirations for the park's future design. The collaborative process involved working with the local community and traders of Dayboro to uncover what makes the town unique and beloved by its residents and workers. The aim was to capture their ideas and aspirations for the park's future design. A total of 180 surveys were received during this time, and 14 people participated in a storytelling workshop. During this time, Council also acquired the necessary land and developed a draft concept design for the park.
Phase 2
Phase two community consultation
In late 2023 and the beginning of 2024, Council met with local community organisations that operate in Roderick A. Cruice Park. The purpose of these meetings was to gain a deeper understanding of how the proposed upgrades to the park would impact these organisations.
Between 15 April and 20 May 2024, we invited community feedback on the overall draft Concept Plan and what elements Council should prioritise in the park.
Community members could provide feedback online via an interactive mapping tool or survey, as well as via email. You can view the responses in the interactive mapping tool and the questions we asked in the survey below. Community members were also given face-to-face opportunities to have their say at a pop-up at the Dayboro Markets.
While residents were generally supportive of the park receiving upgrades. There were concerns with some aspects of the draft Concept Plan.
Top issues raised:
- Concern removal of car parks in and around the park’s perimeter will exacerbate parking issues, make it harder to access the toilets and sporting facilities, and create a barrier for community organisations operating within the park
- Desire to prioritise a park shelter, toilet upgrade, junior playground and shade trees
- Concern proposed streetscaping and planter boxes may create traffic congestion and safety issues.
Phase 3
Phase three community consultation
The updated concept design was open for public comment from 8 April to 13 May 2025. You can read a summary of what we heard during the consultation here.
This marked the final stage of community consultation before we move into the detailed design phase. Council will consider your feedback, alongside best practice landscape design principles, site constraints, project budget and market quotes to determine the detailed design.
Moreton Says
What we've heard from Moreton Says
Moreton Says is a major engagement program Council delivers to bring the views of our communities into our planning and decision-making. It has been running since 2021 and involves a series of region-wide surveys to understand better the things that matter most to our communities.
Moreton Says told us:
- spaces for relaxing and being in nature, spaces for daily exercise, picnic and BBQ facilities, tables and seating, pathways and playgrounds (all ages and abilities) are the top things the Dayboro and surrounding community would like to see in parks and outdoor spaces
- 55% of respondents in Dayboro and surrounds are satisfied or very satisfied with the Council's work in maintaining sports, recreation, and community venues such as playing fields, public swimming pools, and community halls.
We’re working to improve park accessibility and public amenities and to improve community safety in our public spaces.
