A vision for Ferny Hills
City of Moreton Bay is working on a precinct planning project for parts of Ferny Hills to guide future growth and development, while recognising and enhancing local identity.
Ferny Hills is a well-located suburb with existing local shopping, lush recreation parks and access to Kedron Brook. The investigation area in Ferny Hills is close to the Ferny Grove train station.
The city is growing, by increasing housing supply and diversity in built-up areas like Ferny Hills, we can meet the population and housing objectives outlined by the Queensland Government while preserving 75% of the city as rural and natural space. This approach is one of our strategies to avoid an over reliance on future greenfield expansions to accommodate our projected growth and reduce the impacts this would have on our natural, scenic, and productive landscapes.
The future directions for Ferny Hills will be informed by community input and feedback and will focus on:
- allowing greater density and diversity of housing types and sizes so families, workers and downsizers have more options
- improving movement connections to key destinations in the area
- supporting the creation of lively and safe places for people to meet and interact
- recognising and enhancing local identity.
June 2025 update
Between 19 May and 16 June 2025, we invited the community to tell us what makes Ferny Hills special via a pin map and vision wall. Your input has been invaluable, and a summary of what we heard will be available on this project page as soon as it's ready. Thank you to everyone who participated.
What's next?
Feedback gathered during the recent consultation will help shape the future vision for the Ferny Hills Precinct Planning area. This vision will be included in a Future Directions Report that will guide future development.
Once the draft Future Directions Report is complete, you'll have another opportunity to provide feedback. To receive project updates, click the +Follow button at the top of this project page.
